Lady Jewana led Owain by the hand, pulling him away from the high table. No-one noticed or paid much heed if they did. The revellers were caught up in the festivities, and the senses of most were dulled with food and wine.

They hurried to the corner of the great hall. Jewana parted a tapestry to reveal a dark stairwell. She motioned him through the doorway, beckoning with a smile.

“You keep the way secret, my Lady,” he said as he relinquished her hand and stepped through into the dark confines of Jewana’s chamber.
