About
My name is Chris Rosser-Bill and I’m professional and creative writer from Melbourne, Australia. Currently, I live and work in Bristol as a technical author for an international software company. For me it’s almost the perfect job. Yet of late I’ve felt that my career is slowly intruding on my personal interests so I hope this site will help me bring some balance back into my life.
I created this site in mid 2007 as an outlet for all things writing, but in particular fantasy and science-fiction, which are my preferred genres to write. I also hope it will help bring focus and direction to my new projects.
I started writing as a serious hobby at fifteen years of age. Professional writing was something I only remotely considered because at the time I was determined to become an archaeologist. By my early twenties however, archaeology became sidelined to history and creative writing and my ambition was to become a published fantasy novelist.
Times have changed and the reality of marriage and a career has tempered my dreams. Writing is bloody hard; it takes time, perseverance and an incredible amount of self-discipline and belief. When a project is finished, the unpublished author must then lay their heart, soul and skill on the line for agents and publishers in an industry suffering shrinking profit margins and the reality of a populace more enthralled by reality TV and illegal downloads than reading. Nevertheless I did not set out to write for money – although I am paid good money to do so – rather I began to write because I enjoy it; I hope at least that this site will remind me of that fact.
With luck I hope that others will glean a thing or two from my ramblings. Writing is often a lonely and thankless job and I’ve spent many an hour trawling the net and reading the blogs of other writers. It warms me to think that I’m not alone in my struggles; I hope then that my site can offer solace to other fellow scriveners.
